E-CITIZEN/INTERNET

CERTIFY YOUR SKILLS

You will learn what you need to know to be able to use computers and the Internet confidently.

You will be able to use e-government services and online banking, search for information, buy products and services online and communicate online with family and friends.

e-Citizen is open to everyone regardless of status, education, age or ability

You will receive certification for your new skills and become an e-Citizen.

Anybody enrolling should be competent with using computers OR have successfully completed the Beginners/Equalskills programme or its equivalent.

What is e-Citizen

E-Citizen is a computer skills programme for people who want to use the Internet as a source of information, as well as to shop, bank, book holidays, pay bills and access government services.

It has been developed by the experts at the ECDL Foundations to help more people use the Internet in their daily lives.  It builds up confidence in the use of the Internet while teaching practical information-search skills.  It also provides the know-how to use online services in real life situation.

If you've used a computer before but feel you don't know enough about how to use the Internet, this is the programme for you.

 

E-CITIZEN/INTERNET PROGRAMME CONTENTS

BLOCK 1 - FOUNDATIONS SKILLS 

The necessary skills and knowledge for basic computer and Internet use.

  • The Computer

  • Files and Folders

  • Simple Applications

  • Internet Basics

BLOCK 2 - INFORMATION SEARCH

Makes the candidate aware of the nature and extent of information available on the Internet in the areas of news, government, consumer, travel, educations, employment, health, interest groups and business.  The candidate will learn about the issues and risks associated with using the Internet such as security risks in credit card transactions, unscrupulous online service providers and to be able to take precautionary measures.

BLOCK 3 - E-PARTICIPATION

The candidate will be introduced into the world of online resources and services in the areas of news, government, consumer, travel , training, educations, employment, health, interest groups and business.  The candidate will be able to carry out every day tasks such as buying a CD or book, paying a bill, banking online or making a holiday reservation. The candidate will be able to carry out tasks such a filling in a tax return, finding out about new legislation, submitting a job application, make a doctors appointment or take part in an online discussion forum.

Having completed the three blocks, the candidate is now ready to take their place in the online world as a responsible e-citizen and to freely enjoy the opportunities that it offers
