Aim - to encourage older people to become part of the Internet community and deliver skills which are life enhancing, attainable and fun! New windows of opportunity will open eg:
- Being able to communicate cheaply by email
- Using the internet to access more information
- Pay bills on-line and compare prices
- Catch up with the younger generation
- Get information on health issues
- Follow your favourite sports club on the internet
- Book holidays and cheap flights
- Play Bridge and Poker on-line
- Access your favourite radio channel
- Learn about anti-virus software
- Order groceries online
Audience
- This programme is for older/retired people who want to use the Internet as a source of information, as well as to shop, bank, book holidays, pay bills and access government services.
- It builds up confidence in the use of the Internet while teaching practical information search skills. It also provides the know-how to use online services in real life situations.
- Many older people have not had the opportunities to use computers the way that younger generations have. This course will introduce you to the world of the Internet and Email and let you get involved.
- You will learn what you need to know to be able to use computers and the Internet confidently.
- You will be able to keep in touch with friends and family, rebuild contacts, exchange photographs etc with those who have moved away.

- Web Addresses
- Search for web pages
- Save pictures from web pages
- Importance of anti-virus software, windows updates and internet security
- Useful websites, examples may include:
- HSE
- 1911 census
- electoral register
- GAA
- sports sites
- play poker, bingo, bridge etc
- online banking
- shopping on line
- order groceries on line (don't run out of provisions again due to snow or frost - have your groceries delivered)
- Set up your own email address
- Send, receive, reply, forward
- Use attachments
- Set up and use contact lists
- Maps and travelling directions
Audience - anyone enrolling for this course must already be competent with using computers OR have completed a beginners computer course, eg Beginners Retired, Computer Literacy, Equalskills.
