Introduction to Internet
Certification: FETAC Level 3
Duration: 7 weeks
Purpose: This programme will give learners basic Internet skills necessary for personal and work situations. It introduces a range of core skills which provide a basis for life-long learning.
Aims
- Understand the concept of the world wide web and be aware of the trms used in relation to the internet.
- Develop the skills required to send and receive emails.
- Down load digital photographs and scan documents to their computer and save them to the computer.
- Send attachments such as photographs with emails.
- Search for information on the internet.
- Complete tasks on line.
- Be aware of antivirus protection on the internet

Unit 1 - Terms used in relation to the Internet
- Be aware of the concept of world wide web and its operation
- Become aware of the terms frequently used relating to the Internet
Unit 2 - Emails
- Set up email address
- Set up an address book
- Send emails
- Receive and open emails
- Zip files
Unit 3 - Attachments
- Download digital photographs to the computer and save to hard drive
- Scan documents or photos to the computer and save to hard drive
- Send attachments from hard drive with emails
Unit 4 - Search for information
- Carry out a search for information using given site names
- Carry out searches using google tool to search a topic
Unit 5 - Form filling
- Looking up a website to locate required information
- Complete forms on line
- Order or book an event on line
Unit 6 - Antivirus
- Understand the terms used when referring to antivirus software
- Become familiar with how software can be obtained
- Develop the skills required to ensure their computer remains virus free
Assessment is by a portfolio of coursework (Collection of Work) which shows that candidates have achieved all of the Specific Learning Outcomes.
