What's New in Westgate Computer Centre?
First Steps to IT - Commencing 16 September - 3 sessions x 2 hours
BeneFIT2 scheme and participants are people who have not previously engaged with the knowledge society through computer or through internet use. Basic hands-on practical training is provided covering the following:
- Setting up yor own personal Email address
- Sending and receiving Email - including an attachment
- Using a search engine to search the internet using a subject of your own choice and accessing resulting websites
- Conduct at least one simple transaction online, eg buy or reserve something, book a ticket, pay a bill, reserve a library book or check the electoral register
and one of the following options:
- An introduction to digital photography
- An introduction to using the internet for voice or video telecommunications
- An introduction to online banking including process and security safeguards
- Introduction to the use of government services online, eg motor tax
- Assisted and supervised revision
Two weeks full-time ECDL course
This course will commence in September 2010 and is ideal for anyone who needs to get this essential computer certification in a short period of time and at a heavily discounted rate of €350 per person. (Normal fee is €560). Ideal for students prior to starting in college or for anyone who may be leaving the country to seek employment elsewhere. The ECDL/ICDL is recognised worldwide.
Kid's Computer Camps - Summer 2010 in Wexford and Enniscorthy
Option for 7 - 11 year olds and 12 - 14 year olds.
Introduce your child to Word, PowerPoint, Paint, Publisher, Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer etc.
Topics Include:
- Touch Typing
- Saving Files
- Cut, copy & paste
- Art
- Create posters / invitations / slideshow presentations
- Music - Rip & Burn copies of CDs / Drag & Drop music files to MP3 players, phones etc.
- Internet - safe surfing & searching, favourites, printing, gaming etc
- Email - Send & Receive, Save Attachments
Course Fee = €60 per child (€50 for 2 or more from one family). Go to our Schedule for dates and times. A booking deposit of €30 must be paid to secure your child's place on the camp.
Facebook is an Internet site that allows users to post online profiles (including photos, information about themselves, etc.) and then connect to other users who share the same interests, experiences, etc. This workshop will introduce you to facebook and cover the following topics:
- Create an account
- Find friends
- Remove unwanted posts/feeds
- Send and receive messages
- Create groups and fanpages
- Share photos
- Promote events, blogs, newsletters
- Maintain privacy
- Facebook Do's and Dont's

Google Sketchup (3D Modelling)
This course is aimed at people with some experience of CAD. It is of particular use as follows:
- To architects or building professionals
- To furniture, joinery, engineering professionals who wish to design using 3D models
- Anybody interested in developing their own projects - Sketchup can be used to easily model anything from kitchens, landscape projects, building extensions, furniture projects etc.
ECDL using Office 2007
Why struggle getting to grips with the new features of Office 2007. This one-day course introduces users to the new features in Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2007.
Touch, Type, Read & Spell (TTRS)
First introduced by Westgate Computer Centre in March 2009, TTRS is proving extremely successful as a means of learning how to type. Children and adults struggling with dyslexia and other learning difficulties are fining it very beneficial as it teaches touch-typing while at the same time improving spelling and reading.
